The Department of Cultural Studies was founded in 1999. Since its foundation, Galina Sinilo (Associate Professor, Candidate of Philological Sciences) was the head and spiritual leader of the Department. From June, 2015 to April, 2021 the Department was headed by Elina Usovskaya (Associate Professor, Candidate of Cultural Stuides). From May, 2021 to January, 2022 – by Maryna Shoda (Candidate of Philological Sciences). Tatsiana Rabets (Associate Professor, Candidate of Philological Sciences) was the head of the Department from April, 2022 to April, 2023. Curent head of the Department is Irina Matsevich-Dukhan (Associate Professor, Doctor of Philosophical Sciences).
The Department of Cultural Studies offers training in the following specialties:
- Bachelor’s degree course: “Cultural Studies (applied)” and “Social and Cultural Management and Communications”;
- Master’s degree course: “Cultural Studies” (specializations: “Cultural industries” and “Creative industries”);
- Postgraduate course: “Theory and History of Culture”.
Over the years the staff of the department has published several dozens of educational materials for various disciplines, as well as monographies and collections of research papers, several hundred articles and other scientific materials. Students’ Scientific Research
The Department of Cultural Studies has a student research group "Labyrinth", which was created by our students and professors in 2005. In 2010 it became the winner of the BSU competition as the best student project. During its existence the activities of the "Labyrinth" have changed, the strategy of its development has been clarified, but the main task remains unchanged, i.e. to develop professional competencies of students by means of their scientific and creative potential.
Students of the department actively participate in the academic mobility program "Erasmus +". In particular, in Poland, Slovakia, and the Republic of Korea.
Since 2018, an electronic collection of articles of students, undergraduates, postgraduates "Scientific and Practical Research in Cultural Studies" has been published annually together with Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts.
Since 2019, a competition-festival of cultural projects has been held annually in cooperation with the Faculty of Cultural Studies and Socio-Cultural Activities of Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts.
