The Department of Information Technologies was founded on October 10, 2005, as part of the Humanities Faculty of the Belarusian State University. Its basis was the specialty “Informatics”, specialization “Web Design and Computer Graphics”. The first head of the department was Vladimir Nikolaevich Kurbatsky, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor. Author of textbooks and books in the IT field. From the first days of its existence, the department team actively participated in the training of highly qualified specialists in the field of information technologies. The first graduation of programmers took place in June 2008. Since 2009, the Department of Information Technologies has been headed by Sergey Vsevolodovich Tsarik, Candidate of Technical Sciences, who has 15 years of experience in teaching courses and seminars on the application of information and multimedia technologies in modern society. Author of textbooks and books on computer literacy, computer graphics, and modeling. In 2010, the specialty of the department was renamed to “Applied Informatics”, specialization “Web Programming and Computer Design”. Qualification: informatician. Specialist in computer design and web application development. Since 2012, the department has been headed by Vladimir Alexandrovich Nifagin, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Associate Professor. Author of two monographs, over 80 scientific and methodological works in nonlinear mechanics, informatics, mathematical and computer modeling.
The department conducts research on the development of modeling methods for media with complex rheology and information processing algorithms, actively developing e-learning methods. The educational process is provided by qualified scientific and pedagogical staff: 1 professor, 6 associate professors, 7 senior lecturers, 2 lecturers. The teaching staff of the department conducts lectures and classes on 42 disciplines of the specialty.
